PORTRAYING HUMAN’S JOYS AND STRUGGLES DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

A MASTERPIECE CAMPAIGN FUSING ARTS WITH THE ENVIRONMENT BY OMAR FRANGIEH 2020

Perspectives are what matter! While most media agencies were busy with the factual aspect of the virus, Omar Frangieh grabbed the Covid-19 occurrence wholeheartedly. Through his phone lens, he gave the pandemic an artistic twist that touched the heart of many local and global citizens.

From his simple city strolls along with his distinguishably creative mind, Frangieh was able to create “Invaders in Beirut”, a masterpiece campaign, which beautifully fuses art with the environment.

Beirut streets, which once were vibrantly busy, now entailed a different kind of inspiration. A large amount of inappropriately disposed of PPE inhabited the city, unwillingly dominating its scenery. That equipment, initially conceived to protect humankind, was pushed to decorate the neighborhoods, thus creating a risk that subtly outshined the effect of Covid-19 itself.

In addition to raising environmental awareness, Frangieh’s campaign weaved stories of joys and struggles experienced by Beirut citizens through this pandemic. From chilling at home to battling the financial crisis, each invader shaped itself in a way that reminds us of the triumphs and challenges we were facing each and every day.

The feedback propelled a massive feedforward, pioneering a whole new adventure!

The new normal

PPE became our new normal.
Whether it’s by choice or an imposed government regulation, people everywhere started wearing masks and gloves, hoping to hide from their common enemy.

Be aware!

What was mainly meant to protect people, suddenly became a significant hazard to the environment and a top catalyst to the spread of the virus.
The amount of PPE thrown all around urged any responsible citizen to act, and to act quickly.

Invaders in Beirut

In April 2020, the “Invaders in Beirut” awareness campaign was born. We aimed high and reached higher! We got excited to see other voices from around the globe promoting similar initiatives.
Seeing that we deeply believe in togetherness, we decided to reach out seeking collaborations and partnerships on both local and global levels.

Together for a healthier planet!

Invaders in beirut is looking to:

Establish a PARTNERSHIP with local and global NGOs & IGOs to spread awareness, through artwork, about the hazard of littering PPE.

Create a viable COLLABORATION with AUTHORITIES of different regions and on various levels.

Upcoming projects

Outdoor Exhibitions

Displayed in different areas across the region to raise awareness among citizens and invoke them to take action.

Hunting for Invaders

Call for photographers in a region to meet and go hunt for littered masks and gloves. The aim would be to take an artistic photo and then collect the PPE to be then disposed appropriately.

Collaboration with Artists

Collaborate with local and global artists (designers, painter…) to spread the principles and mission of Invaders in Beirut.

Digital Activation

Through Facebook & Instagram, our platform allows people, with different photography skills, to take a picture of an invader and post it on our page.
This project aims at making the awareness campaign a shared responsibility among all citizens.
